Parasite Prevention

Heartworm Preventatives:

Preventing against heartworm disease for your cat or dog can save their lives.  Heartworms can cause severe damage to the heart, pulmonary arteries, and lungs resulting in coughing, weight loss, or sudden death.  Prevention is easy, affordable (compared to the cost of treatment), and recommended year-round.

• Interceptor Plus (dogs):  This is a monthly chewable tablet that protects against heartworms and intestinal parasites including hookworms, roundworms, whipworms, and tapeworms.
• Proheart Injection (dogs):  This is an injection that provides six months of continuous protection against heartworms.  Proheart is a great option for dogs who are difficult to give medications to or for owners who may have trouble remembering to medicate their pets monthly.
• Revolution Plus (cats):  This is a topical product that is applied to the skin on the back of your cat’s neck once monthly.  It protects them against heartworms, intestinal worms, fleas, ticks, and ear mites.

Flea and Tick Preventatives:

Fleas and ticks can cause significant problems for you and your pet.  Fleas cause allergies and skin infection while ticks can spread several diseases.  Newer, more effective products today make it possible to keep your pets parasite free.

• Credelio (dogs):  This is a monthly chewable pill that protects your dog from fleas and ticks.   
• Bravecto (dogs):  This is a chewable pill that protects your dog for three months against fleas and ticks.
• Seresto Collar (dogs and cats):  This collar offers eight months of continuous protection against fleas and ticks for your pet.
• Revolution Plus (cats):  This is a topical product that is applied to the skin on the back of your cat’s neck once monthly.  It protects them against heartworms, intestinal worms, fleas, ticks, and ear mites.
